‘As close to glimpsing someone’s soul as movement can get’ THE TIMES
Former Associate Artist of the Royal Opera House, choreographer Cathy Marston presents her unique blend of classical and contemporary dance in a stunning triple bill combining music, literature, visual art and fashion.
TRACES [2001]
7 dancers, 25 minutes
Originally created for dancers of the Royal Ballet, Traces
presents a dance ‘soap opera’ of emotions, bringing alive
the music of Yann Tierson, composer of the score for
Amelie. [Original commission by the Royal Opera
House]
‘Traces was pure
heaven from start to finish. Each moment of unrequited love, confusion,
friendship, subtle humour and tension exquisitely evolved in a superb
display of fluid, dynamic choreography’ DANCE
EUROPE
BEFORE THE TEMPEST...AFTER THE STORM [2004]
4 dancers, 30 minutes
before the tempest… after the storm draws
you into a mythological world where Marston imagines the pre and post
story of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. With an original score
by Jules Maxwell incorporating extracts from Ovid and
W H Auden, the piece contrasts the earthy, primal relationship
of Caliban and his mother, Sycorax, with the elegant, ethereal dialogue
of Prospero and Ariel. [Original commission by the Royal Opera House]
‘A little poetic gem… rich in pain and tenderness, expressed in imaginative shapes and movements’ DANCE EUROPE
ARCANA [World Premiere]
5 dancers, 20 minutes
Inspired by a recent trip to Cuba (commissioned by Channel
4
short films), Marston has commissioned composer, Dave
Maric,
to write a new score for Arcana, drawing on Afro-Cuban
folklore music, presenting a vibrant fusion of colour and passion. In
an upbeat and sensual play on rhythm and movement, the dancers are set
alight with dazzling costumes by award-winning Turkish fashion designer,
Bora Aksu.
